Cardiovascular Risk Assessments

Heart disease continues to be a leading cause of hospital admissions and deaths worldwide, so a healthy heart is a valuable asset.

A cardiovascular risk assessment (heart check) determines your risk of having a heart attack or stroke in the next five years.

Important factors that determine your risk are: your personal health history, age, family history, weight, cigarette smoking, blood pressure, exercise history, and diabetes.

A heart check is recommended for people once they reach a certain age. The doctors and nurses at Upper Hutt Health Centre can advise you if you need a heart check and carry out an assessment for you.

We can also give you support and advice on quitting smoking, managing your diabetes and getting your weight into a healthy range.
